Find a piece of string or cut a strip of paper 1/2 inch wide by 5 inches long.
Wrap the string or paper around the base of your finger.
Mark the point with a pen where the two ends meet.
With a ruler, measure the length of the string or paper to the nearest 1/16" of an inch (or millimeter), rounding up if necessary. Generally, 1/16 of an inch (or 1 cm) increases the ring size by 1/2 of a size.
Using the chart below, find the closest measurement in inches or millimeters and look to the far left column to determine your ring size.

Important Tips:

To insure an accurate ring size measurement, make sure your hands and fingers are warm, preferably at room temperature. Finger size may be affected by normal swelling and shrinking caused by hot or cold weather, medication, physical exercise, or weight changes. If you have a large knuckle, you will need to be able to slide the ring past it. If in doubt, it is always better go slightly larger rather than smaller.

If you're buying the ring as a gift, borrow a ring that you know fits well and slide it down a tapered candle until the rings stops. Mark the candle above and below the edges of the ring. Then measure according to the instructions above.
